‘Waiting On the Lord’

What is the meaning of “waiting on the Lord”?

“Be glad for all God is planning for you. Be patient in trouble, and always be prayerful.” Romans 12:12

We are sometimes guilty of failing to this–very guilty. In fact, we run to it often to this dilemma. ‘Waiting on the Lord’ is patience and perspective that go hand in hand. When we are always focused on our own agenda and priorities, we will find ourselves impatient much of the time because life will rarely go the way we want it to. If we take the larger perspective that life is a journey and not a straight line between two points, we will realize that what we do along the way is as important as getting there. This allows us to patiently wait and learn when things don’t go our way, and even to find ways to serve others on the detours of daily life.

“Don’t be impatient for the Lord to act! Travel steadily along his path. He will honor you, giving you the land.” Psalm 37:34
