Visayas Farms to Sustain Growth This Year
Different farms and the whole agriculture industry in all the three provinces in the Visayas will sustain growth this year 2021 according to the Department of Agriculture (DA).
Heads of DA’s regional offices stated that the support for Filipino farmers from the national government should be the top priority in order to achieve the projected growth.
“Last year, we have provided farm inputs and equipment to our farmers. Our convergence with the LGUs is important in identifying the needs of the farmers in the different localities,” said Atty Salvador Diputado, DA Central Visayas (DA)-7 Regional Director.
Meanwhile in region 6, DA regional director Engr. Remelyn Recoter pointed out that a “reboot” is needed to adapt to the changing world, specifically in the agricultural sector.
An 8.7% production increase was recorded on “palay” in 2020.
DA also held a program called “Kadiwa ni Ani at Kita”, which contributed much to farmers supplying the consuming public.
Meanwhile, in Region 8, the rice and corn production 96% and 94% respectively in 2020.
“We have high-value commodities that we want to be renowned just like the mango of Cebu. In Eastern Visayas, we have good varieties of abaca and coconut,” said Angel Enriquez, DA-8 Regional Director.
The DA heads are looking forward for more programs and activities to further boost their region’s agricultural sector. (MLC)
