Virtual Radio Station to Bring US-based Pinoys Closer to Home
US-based Pinoys can now keep up with the latest news at home via Radyo Tambuli, a virtual radio station that allows the Philippine Embassy to deliver news, music and other information to mobile phone users, GMA News Online reported on Friday.
The embassy, in a statement on Friday, said Radyo Tambuli is created to re-connect Filipinos in the US to the country, allowing callers to “hear the latest news about the Philippines, original Pilipino music (OPM) and discussions on pressing issues and even participate in opinion surveys.”
“We hope that with Radyo Tambuli, we would be able to bridge the distance between the Philippines and our kababayans here in the United States who are hungry for news about home,” Consul General Ariel Peñaranda said during station’s launch on Tuesday last week.
Radyo Tambuli can be accessed by calling 415-638-5777 from mobile phone, smartphone or landline.
Charges
Callers will only be charged for using voice minutes and will not incur incremental charge for the call. To ensure no additional charges, Radyo Tambuli provider AudioNow chief executive officer Elan Blutinger advised listeners to check their voice plans for when charges may apply.
“Radyo Tambuli introduces a brand new way to conduct public diplomacy in an age where more and more people heavily rely on their mobile phones to stay connected,” said Blutinger.
The embassy statement said AudioNow owns and operates the world’s largest call-to-listen platform, report said.
