Vidal Now in Stable Condition
Cebu Archbishop Jose Palma on Thursday told reporters that his predecessor, Ricardo Cardinal Vidal, was in stable condition after he suffered a mild stroke last Tuesday.
Vidal, 82, was rushed to Perpetual Succor after showing signs of weakness according to his secretary. Officials say Vidal’s condition has stabilized but needs to rest.
The prelate, who retired as Cebu Archbishop in 2011, was having his lunch in his home in Sto. Nino Village, Barangay Banilad, when he experienced symptoms of stroke. He also had the same problem in 2012, but it was considered mild.
The Cardinal Emeritus is said to be a regular visitor of the said hospital because of his heart problem. In 2004, the prelate underwent an angiogram, an examination of the heart and blood vessels, and had installed a pacemaker to monitor his heart.
Reports said Vidal also previously underwent a heart bypass operation and angioplasty. He was also at one time diagnosed of osteoarthritis and had to wear a neck brace.
