Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC) To Have Additional 130 Beds By July
The Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC), the biggest state-run hospital in Central Visayas, will have an additional 130 beds by July with the completion of the Cebu City North District Building.
VSMMC Chief Dr. Gerardo Aquino Jr. said the four-story building was constructed in compliance with House Bill 5276 filed by Rep. Raul del Mar (Cebu City, north district), which increased VSMMC’s bed capacity from 800 to 1,200.
The construction of the building was funded by the Department of Health (DOH) and DPWH.
Del Mar said the building will be inaugurated and may start operating in July.
Aquino, del Mar and Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Cebu City District Engineer Nicomedes Leonor Jr. inspected the building on Monday.
The Cebu City North District Building, constructed within the VSMMC compound on B. Rodriguez St., Cebu City, is expected to accommodate and prioritize the growing number of patients from Cebu City’s North District.
“This is an appreciation for VSMMC’s accommodation of the patients of Tambal ni del Mar program. So, when they accommodate our patients, it adds to the congestion every time. They need more bed spaces,” del Mar said.
Del Mar said he first filed a bill to increase the bed space capacity of VSMMC from 400 to 800, but it was overtaken by so many patients.
“So, we had to file again another bill increasing the bed capacity from 800 to 1,200,” he said.
Del Mar said the bill has been signed into law last April 26, 2016. (PNA)
