Vet Calls Pet Owners to Avail Free of Anti-Rabies Vaccination
The Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO) in Misamis Oriental will conduct free anti-rabies vaccination and education campaign to all the municipalities of the province, in time for the celebration of the 2017 Rabies Awareness Month this March.
Dr. Benjamin Resma, PVO head, said P2.4 million is allocated for the project to be conducted in two batches.
First batch will be on March 13-17, 2017, at the towns of Balingoan, Talisayan, Gitagum, Initao, Balingasag, Binuangan, Libertad, Salay, Tagoloan, Alubijid and El Salvador City.
The second batch will be on March 27-31, 2017 at Medina, Magsaysay, Manticao, Opol, Jasaan, Naawan, Claveria, Lugait, Kinoguitan, Villanueva, Laguindingan and Lagonglong. Resma urged pet owners to visit their respective Municipal Veterinary Offices and have their pets vaccinated from rabies for free.
He said this is a continuing program of the provincial government Governor Yevgeny Vincente B. Emano to keep safe the residents from rabies when accidentally bitten by their pets or stray dogs on streets.
There are about 64,000 dogs recorded in Misamis Oriental including those certified by the PVO as rabies-free.
He said education campaign involving dog owners is included in the program to promote awareness on how to be more responsible in taking care of their pets and how dangerous it is if non-vaccinated animals bite a man. Rabies has been a public concern especially during every summer, Resma said.(PIO MisOr)
