VECO Lays Underground Cables
As part of its upgrading program, the Visayan Electric Company (VECO) has started laying underground cables in selected areas in Cebu.
Sebastian Lacson, Veco’s vice president for administration and customer services, said they have already started the first phase of the project by burying cables along Capitol area and Fuente Osmena in Cebu City. That’s at least a one-kilometer stretch, he said. Lacson said the utility company has earmarked P60 million for the first phase alone, which is expected to be completed in the next 10 months. The second phase, he said, will be along P. del Rosario Street.
This system is aimed at addressing the “spaghetti wires” system in almost everywhere in Cebu, Lacson added.
“We’ll allow trees a little breathing room and allow vegetation to grow and make the city a little more in touch with what modern cities should look like,” he said.
