VECO Celebrates 113th Anniversary at Missionaries of Charity
The Visayan Electric Company (VECO) celebrated its 113th anniversary at the Missionaries of Charity in Barangay Suba, Cebu City last February 24.
A total of 34 VECO Kaibigans spent their Saturday bringing happiness to some 50 children, some of whom were victims of the fire that hit neighboring barangays Pasil and Sawang Calero last January.
The outreach activity, which was spearheaded by VECO’s Reputation Enhancement Department, treated the children to exciting and interactive games, including an appearance and dance number from Jollibee. The children also prepared various song and dance numbers that showcased their talents together with the VECO kaibigans. The activity concluded with a sumptuous lunch and distribution of slippers for the children. VECO also donated grocery items for the children who are housed at the Missionaries of Charity facility in Barangay Suba.
VECO Kaibigan Cielo Uy, one of the organizers, thanked the volunteers for sharing their valuable time with the children. “Seeing the smiles of these children is very heartwarming considering that they were fire victims. At least, in our own little way and thru sharing a little of our time, we have made them happy,” she said adding that the activity inspired her to conduct more similar activities in the future.
VECO is the second largest electric utility in the Philippines. It serves the cities of Cebu, Mandaue, Talisay, Naga and four municipalities of the greater part of Metro Cebu — Liloan, Consolacion, Minglanilla and San Fernando.
Since its establishment in February 25, 1905, VECO has been a partner in Cebu’s progress by advancing business and communities. The non-energy community outreach programs of VECO promote education, environment and community development within its franchise area and are geared toward guiding the youth, the future movers of our nation.
