US, China may go to War in 2025: US General
An internal memo from the Air Force’s Air Mobility Command head, General Mike Minihan, has warned that the US and China are at risk of going to war in two years, according to a report by NBC News.
The general told officers under his command to prepare, including through target practice, in case of conflict. He stated that he had a ‘gut feeling’ that the conflict would occur in 2025, due to the US and Taiwanese presidential elections.
An Air Mobility Command spokesperson explained that the memo was part of their effort to prepare for any eventualities in case deterrence fails as the content of the memo was criticized by a Defense Department official, saying that the memo does not represent the official stance of the Pentagon on China.
The Biden administration has expressed its concern about China’s military buildup and its perceived more aggressive stance towards Taiwan.
The administration’s October national security strategy has labeled China as the only competitor of the US with the intention of reshaping the international order and the power to do so.
Meanwhile, China has also lambasted the recent US defense spending package that authorizes up to USD 10 billion in weapons sales to Taiwan, claiming it is a threat and interferes with its internal affairs.
The situation between the US and China remains tense, and the internal memo highlights the need for preparation and readiness in case of conflict. (GFB)
