(Update) INC Weighing Estafa Charges vs Int’l Singer Brown, Promoter

Manila (PNA) — The Department of Justice (DOJ) has issued an Immigration Lookout Bulletin Order (ILBO) against Grammy Award winning singer Christopher Maurice Brown or “Chris Brown” following request of Iglesia ni Cristo (INC).

The INC told DOJ it was filing a complaint for violation of Article 315 of the Revised Penal Code (RPC) for estafa against Brown and his promoter, John Michael Pio de Roda, in connection with the singer’s failed appearance on Dec. 31, 2014 at the Philippine Arena in Bocaue, Bulacan for its New Year countdown.

Maligaya Development Corp., administrator of Ciudad de Victoria ,where the INC’s Philippine Arena is located, engaged Pio Roda to help INC bring Brown into the Philippines to perform on Dec. 31, 2014 at the Philippine Arena for the New Year’s countdown.

“This is to respectfully request for assistance from your good office, for the successful prosecution of the criminal complaint which MDC is lodging against Mr. John Michael Pio Roda and Mr. Christopher Maurice Brown aka Chris Brown for the crime of Estafa,” Atty. Glicerio Santos IV, chief operating officer and head legal counsel of INC said in its letter to the DOJ dated July 21, 2015.

DOJ Secretary Leila M. De Lima issued the ILBO.

A copy of the ILBO was received by the Bureau of Immigration (BI) Wednesday morning. (PNA) RMA/PTR
