UP Movie Night
Manila International Film Festival entries Esoterika and Honor Thy Father were shown in the UP Arts and Sciences Hall on April 22. These two movies showcased the growth and expertise of the Philippine Cinema and its artists.
Esoterika, an award-winning entry to the Film Fest, explored the aspects of sexuality and identity through the eyes of its protagonist -a young man from the province who went to Manila to pursue his passion for the arts. Experimental with a lick of Filipino humor, it was a film that people who loved and studied Cinema must watch.
Honor Thy Father is a gritty movie about how far one man will go to protect his family. It touched on religiosity, greed and familial bonds. The morality of religious upbringing and beliefs clashed with the desperation of a man whose sole purpose was to keep his family safe.
