UnionBank, CitySavings Help Propel Online Education

The Union Bank of the Philippines (UnionBank) and City Savings Bank (CitySavings) help teachers get set up for online education through donations.

Education’s sudden shift from face-to-face classes to online classes due to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic is pushing the education sector to rapidly adapt and improve its educational capabilities to become more effective during this time.

UnionBank and CitySavings through their Xcellerator Program donated P660,000 and P330,000 respectively, for the Help Educators Rise to Online Education for SY 2020-2021 or HEROES 2021 project of the Thames International School.

HEROES 2021 aims to train over 800,000 teachers from the Department of Health (DepEd) on effective online teaching. Teachers will be given access to learning programs on emerging technologies, to keep up with the changing education landscape.

“We thank our partners Thames, UnionBank and CitySavings for the Heroes 2021 teacher training project. We all know that the use of printed modules for learning delivery is not sustainable in the long run given the costs and impact on the environment. Online learning is one of the solutions and now is the time to train our teachers. We are excited that since the launch, we already have more than 11,000 DepEd NCR teachers trained,” said DepEd NCR Regional Director Malcolm Garma.
