Ukraine Bombs Russian forces in Bid to Retake South Ukraine
As Russia makes minuscule gains in the Donbas region, Ukraine aims to create another theater in the war as Kyiv now intends to retake Kherson from the Russians.
Ukraine announced Thursday that its planes conducted air strikes on five Russian fortifications surrounding the city of Kherson and another city nearby.
This comes as Ukraine now puts the retaking of Kherson, which has fallen under the hands of the Russians just days after the Russian invasion of Ukraine happened.
Moreover, Ukraine also announced that it has retaken a number of small settlements in the northern part of the Kherson Oblast in recent weeks.
This is part of Kyiv’s bid to launch a major counter-offensive in southern Ukraine, which will open another theater in the war, and lessen the number of Russian troops in the Donbas region.
On Wednesday, Ukraine said that the operation to liberate Kherson “has already begun” as the Antonivskiy Bridge, a key logistical route for Russia, has been struck.
Moreover, a Ukrainian presidential adviser also said that Russia is now in the process of a “massive redeployment” of troops to southern regions.
This move spreads Russian troops, which have been focused on the Donbas region in recent months.
Meanwhile, the Defence Ministry of Ukraine said on Twitter that they have created an “impossible dilemma” due to the recent strikes.
“Retreat or be annihilated by the Ukrainian army,” the tweet from Ukraine’s Defence Ministry read. (GFB)
