Typhoon Paeng Exits PAR, But PAGASA Says Rain to Fall Over Parts of Vis-Min
Just In: PAGASA reported that Typhoon Paeng (Nuri) exited the Philippine Area of Responsibility before noon Tuesday, but said rain is still likely over parts of Visayas and Mindanao.
PAGASA’s Manny Mendoza, in a report over GMA News Online, said their forecast models showed Typhoon Paeng exited the PAR as early as 8 am. He said Paeng had no direct effect on the country while it was inside the PAR.
Mendoza, however, also said there will still be cloudy skies with light to moderate rain showers and thunderstorms over Central Visayas and Mindanao. He said this is caused by the Northeast Monsoon and the wind convergence.
Heading for Japan
Meanwhile, the Japan Meteorological Agency’s 10:20 a.m. update indicated the typhoon is heading for Southern Japan.
PAGASA’s 11 am update said that as of 10 am, Paeng was estimated at 1,372 km east of Basco, Batanes, with maximum winds of 185 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 220 kph, report said.
It added that Paeng is forecast to move north-northeast at 19 kph and is expected to be 1,654 km east-northeast of Itbayat, Batanes by Wednesday morning.
PAGASA added Paeng may have rainfall of 7.5 to 30 mm per hour (heavy to intense) within its 600-km diameter.
Rough Sea Condition
PAGASA said the northeasterly winds over the northern and eastern seaboards of Luzon and over the eastern seaboard of Visayas may result in rough to very rough sea conditions.
It advised fisherfolk and those using small seacrafts not to venture out over these seaboards, report said.
