Once it enters the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), a typhoon, with the international name “Vongfong,” will be codenamed “Ompong”, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Tuesday.

The Weather agency said the typhoon is expected to enter PAR on Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning.

PAGASA said Vongfong has maximum winds of 120 kilometers per hour (kph) and gustiness of up to 150 kph.

PAGASA added that “Vongfong” may enter PAR through Northern Luzon and is forecast to move west northwest at 25 kph. The typhoon is not expected to make landfall, said PAGASA.

It added that their forecast track shows that Vongfong will be moving away from the country immediately, like previous Typhoon “Neneng.”

The typhoon is expected to move out of PAR by Friday or Saturday.

PAGASA said Palawan, Western Visayas and Mindanao will experience cloudy skies with light to moderate rainshowers and thunderstorms. The Provinces of Cagayan, Apayao and Ilocos Norte will have cloudy skies with light to moderate rains.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms, it said.

According to PAGASA, moderate to strong winds blowing from the northeast will prevail over the Northern Luzon and its coastal waters will be moderate to rough.

Light to moderate winds coming from the northeast to northwest will prevail over the rest of Luzon and coming from the southwest to west over the rest of the country with slight to moderate seas, PAGASA reported.
