Typhoon ‘Maysak’ May Enter PHL on Wednesday or Thursday
Manila (PNA) — The typhoon with international name “Maysak” is expected to enter the Philippine Area of Responsiblity (PAR) by Wednesday or Thursday, according to Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
In an interview, PAGASA weather forecaster Aldczar Aurelio said typhoon “Maysak” was located at 1,980 km east of Mindanao packed with maximum sustained winds of 165 kph and its gustiness up to 200 kph. It’s moving west northwest at 22 kph.
Maintaining its movement and speed, Aurelio said the typhoon may enter the PAR by Wednesday or Thursday and it will be locally named “Chedeng”, the third tropical cyclone to enter the country this year.
He said once it enters PAR, it will not yet directly affect the country but will bring rains and winds by Friday or Saturday over Northern or Central Luzon.
The typhoon is expected to make a landfall in Northern Luzon but if its movement recurve, it will not make a landfall.
For Tuesday forecast, Aurelio said the ridge of high pressure area (HPA) is affecting Northern Luzon as the Cagayan Valley, Cordillera and Ilocos Region will experience partly cloudy skies.
Except in some parts of Mindanao, most parts of the country including Metro Manila will continue to experience generally fair weather or will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms.
Metro Manila temperature will be range 23-34 degrees Celsius.
He said the highest temperature recorded on Monday was at 35.5 degrees Celsius in Tuguegarao and 34.0 degrees Celsius in Metro Manila.
With the presence of cloud cluster, parts of Caraga, Northern Mindanao and Davao Region will have cloudy skies with light to moderate rainshowers and thunderstorms.
In its advisory, PAGASA said light to moderate winds coming from the east to southeast will prevail over Northern Luzon and coming from the northeast over the rest of the country with slight to moderate seas. (PNA) LGI/CLTC
