Typhoon ‘Jenny’ Exits PAR, But Rains to Continue in Luzon Due to ‘Habagat’

Manila (PNA) — All public storm warning signals in the country were lifted as Typhoon “Jenny” is now outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Tuesday.

In an interview, PAGASA weather forecaster Buddy Javier said Jenny left PAR around 5:30 a.m. after crossing northern Taiwan and is now moving towards southeastern China.

As of 4 a.m. Tuesday, the eye of the typhoon was spotted some 425 km north northwest of Itbayat, Batanes (24.2N, 120.0E) packed with maximum sustained winds of 130 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 160 kph. It is forecast to move west northwest at 19 kph.

Javier said the typhoon is not expected to recurve or return the country.

He added the despite typhoon is outside the country will continues to enhance the southwest monsoon affecting Luzon.

The southwest monsoon will weaken as the typhoon continues to move away.

For Tuesday forecast, Javier said due to typhoon-enhanced southwest monsoon cloudy skies with light to moderate rains and isolated thunderstorms will be experienced over Metro Manila, Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, Cordillera, Central Luzon, Calabarzon and the provinces of Mindoro and Palawan while partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated thunderstorms will prevail over the rest of the country.

He noted the state-run weather bureau also issued a gale warning due to the effects of the southwest monsoon enhanced by the typhoon as the sea condition would be rough to very rough due to strong to gale force winds expected to affect the northern seaboard of Northern Luzon.

“Fishing boats and other small seacraft are advised not to venture out into the sea while larger sea vessels are alerted against big waves,” it warned.

In its advisory, PAGASA said moderate to strong winds blowing from the southwest to south will prevail over the entire country. The coastal waters throughout the archipelago will be moderate to rough. (PNA) JBP/CLTC
