Manila — Typhoon “Florita” is expected to be outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Tuesday morning, according to Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

In an interview, PAGASA weather forecaster Aldczar Aurelio said that as of 6 a.m., the eye of Typhoon Florita was located 560 km northeast of Basco, Batanes (24.7ºN, 125.9ºE) packed with maximum sustained winds of 185 kph and gustiness of up to 220 kph.

Aurelio said Typhoon Florita is forecast to move north northwest at 20 kph towards Okinawa, Japan.

He added the typhoon is expected to be out of PAR around 7 a.m. or 8 a.m. and is not expected to recurve or return to the country.

“Once lumabas na sa PAR we will issued final bulletin but still continues to enhance the southwest monsoon,” Aurelio told the Philippines News Agency (PNA).

However, Aurelio said the typhoon will continue to enhance the southwest monsoon or “hanging habagat” which will induce monsoon rains over Metro Manila, Ilocos Region, Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan) and the Provinces of Zambales, Bataan, Cavite, Laguna and Batangas.

He added the rest of Luzon and Visayas will experience occasional rains while Mindanao will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms.

Aurelio also said the weather agency issued gale warning as strong to gale force winds associated with surge of southwest monsoon enhanced by Typhoon “Florita” is expected to affect the northern, eastern and southern seaboards of Luzon, western seaboard of Southern Luzon and of Visayas.

“Fishing boats and other small sea crafts are advised not to venture out into the sea while larger sea vessels are alerted against big waves,” it said.

PAGASA also said moderate to strong winds blowing from the southwest will prevail over the country and the coastal waters will be moderate to rough. (PNA) JBP/CLTC
