Two Govt. Workers in Daanbantayan Found Positive of Illegal Drugs
Two employees of Daanbantayan Municipal Hall were tested positive of illegal drugs after Monday’s surprise drug testing.
Joey Herrera of the provincial capitol said they will have to do another test on these two employees within this week as they don’t also know yet what kind of drugs these employees are taking.
Mayor Augusto Corro, who was the first to submit himself for the test, said if these two are regular employees of the local government, they will have to go through a process before he issues a verdict on them, but if they are job order workers, they will immediately be terminated.
As of Monday afternoon, the private drug testing firm, Big Cross, has withheld the names of the two individuals, who were among the 73 employees who underwent the test. Of these 73, 51 are rank-and-file while the rest are department heads and barangay officials.
Corro said he ordered for the drug test to support the call of Governor Hilario Davide III to cleanse government offices from drug users.
The mayor also said this is to prove his political opponents that he takes the fight against illegal drugs seriously.
Corro admitted the existence of illegal drug activities in Daanbantayan but said the local police are doing its effort to arrest those behind it.
He said at least two alleged big-time drug dealers, Bong Lucero and Boy Chiong, were apprehended on August and April last year.
Last Friday, another alleged drug dealer was also arrested in a buy-bust operation in Malapascua Island, he added.
