Tuburan to Achieve Zero Maternal Mortality
Tuburan town is poised to achieve zero maternity death in the last two years.
According to Department of Health 7, the town recorded zero maternity death in 2013 and only one in 2012.
As of October this year, Tuburan has not recorded any maternal mortality thus far. However, the town tallied eight (8) infant mortality since 2013.
Mayor Democrito “Aljun” Diamante credited the achievement to the help of barangay health workers (BHWs).
“Nagpasabot nga kamo BHW naningkamot jud nga walay mamatay nga manganak (It means that you, BHWs, worked hard that no mother will die from childbirth,)” he said.
However, the town mayor gave more challenge to his barangay workers.
The town is also facing other problems such as the prevalence of teenage pregnancy as well as child malnutrition.
Cebu Vice Governor Agnes Magpale, who handles Capitol commissions related to women and children, was impressed with Diamante.
Magpale said the mayor is knowledgeable on what is happening in his town. She added not all mayors know the nutritional status of the town or city’s children as well as maternal mortality.
She was also happy to know that this is one of the mayor’s priorities.
Magpale accompanied Governor Hilario P. Davide III in the distribution of cash incentives to the barangay workers last December 10 in Tuburan and Tabuelan towns.
