TS ‘Egay’ Exits PAR; Typhoon ‘Falcon’ Expected to Enter Tuesday Afternoon or Evening –PAGASA
Tropical storm “Egay” is now outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) and all public storm warning signals (PSWS) over Northern and Central Luzon are now lifted, the state-run Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Tuesday.
In its latest bulletin, PAGASA said that as of 9 a.m. Tuesday, the center of TS “Egay” was estimated based on all available data at 320 kilometers west-southwest of Basco, Batanes (20.3°N, 118.9°E) packed with maximum sustained winds of 85 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 100 kph. It is forecast to move northward at 7 kph.
Fisherfolks and small seacrafts are advised not to venture out over the seaboards of Northern Luzon and the western seaboard of Central Luzon.
Meanwhile, as of 10 a.m., typhoon “Chan-Hom” (international name) was still outside the PAR, located based on all available data at 1,620 km east of Northern Luzon (18.1˚N, 137.0˚E) with maximum sustained winds of 120 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 150 kph. It is forecast to move west-northwest at 20 kph.
PAGASA said the typhoon is expected to enter the PAR Tuesday afternoon or evening and will be named “Falcon” — the sixth tropical cyclone to enter the country this year and the second for this month of July.
On Wednesday morning, the typhoon is expected to be at 1,190 km east of Itbayat, Batanes and at 780 km east- northeast of Itbayat, Batanes by Thursday morning.
By Friday morning, it is expected to be at 600 km northeast of Itbayat, Batanes or already outside the PAR.
The southwest monsoon or “Habagat” is expected to bring moderate to occasionally heavy rains over the Calayan and Babuyan group of islands, Ilocos region and the provinces of Benguet, Zambales and Bataan.
Residents in these areas are advised to be alert against possible flashfloods and landslides, the state weather agency said. (PNA) SCS/CLTC
