TS ‘Amang’ Weakens into LPA, Gradual Weather Improvement Seen – PAGASA

Manila (PNA) — Expect gradual improvement in weather condition in most parts of the country Monday as tropical storm “Amang” weakened and downgraded into a low pressure area (LPA).

Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) weather forecaster Glaiza Escullar told the Philippines News Agency (PNA) that due to a series of landfall and the presence of the northeast monsoon strong winds interacting with the circulation of the cyclone reduced Amang’s intensity as it heads towards Northern Luzon.

She added that the weakening of the weather disturbance is also due to the strong vertical wind shear or winds from different directions that blow into the country and interacts with the circulation of the cyclone.

All public storm warning signals are now lifted.

Escullar said that as of 4 a.m. the LPA was spotted in the vicinity of Casiguran, Aurora (16.2°N, 122.1°E).

However, she said the presence of the LPA affecting Northern Luzon will bring cloudy skies with light to moderate rainshowers over Cagayan Valley, Cordillera and Ilocos regions.

Escullar said the LPA is expected to dissipate within the next 24 hours.

For Monday forecast, PAGASA said the rest of Luzon including Metro Manila will have cloudy skies with light rains while the Visayas and Mindanao will be partly cloudy to cloudy. Thunderstorms are likely to occur over these areas.

It added moderate to strong winds blowing from the northeast to northwest will prevail over Luzon and northeast to southeast over the Visayas and Mindanao with moderate to rough seas.

The northeast monsoon will also bring rough to very rough sea conditions over the seaboards of northern and central luzon and the eastern seaboard of Southern Luzon .

“Fisherfolks and those using small seacraft are advised not to venture out over the said seaboards,” it warned. (PNA) FPV/CLTC
