Truth Behind Cravings During Pregnancy
Most people often joke to someone that she is pregnant when she’s eating unusual food combinations or a type of food that she normally doesn’t like. And the funny thing is that they are somehow true! So how do cravings start and what’s the truth behind them during pregnancy?
For most women, cravings start in the first trimester, peak in the second trimester, and decline in the third trimester. Doctors say that appetite rarely persists after giving birth, so you won’t eat the same weird thing forever.
According to Pregnancy, Birth & Baby, no one really knows why cravings are developed. It may seem reasonable that cravings are caused by a poor diet or an increased need for certain vitamins and minerals but there is no clear evidence of a link between cravings and nutrient deficiencies. Food cravings in a pregnant woman may also have a sudden dislike or dislike of certain strong-tasting foods or even a sudden appetite and loss of appetite may be related to the effects of pregnancy hormones, which can alter the taste and smell of certain foods.
What to do about the cravings? It is completely fine to eat food cravings occasionally and in moderation, but it must not be overly indulged because it might cause unwanted excess weight gain or even difficulties when giving birth. The best way to head off pregnancy cravings is to make sure to have well-balanced meals throughout the day. You can check the Pinggang Pinoy for Pregnant & Lactating for a guide on choosing a variety of foods from the Go, Grow and Glow groups on a per-meal basis. When cravings hit hard, a little distraction might help. Go for a walk, play a game, visit a friend.
