Trough of LPA to Bring Rains over Visayas, Mindanao — PAGASA

Manila (PNA) — The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Monday that Visayas and Mindanao will continue to experience cloudy skies with light to moderate rainshowers due to the trough or extended cloudiness of the low pressure area (LPA) inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility.

PAGASA said that as of 4 a.m. the LPA was spotted 770 km east of Borongan, Eastern Samar.

For Monday forecast, Visayas and the regions of CARAGA, Northern Mindanao and Zamboanga Peninsula will experience cloudy skies with light to moderate rainshowers and thunderstorms due to trough or clouds extending on its edge of the LPA.

PAGASA weather forecaster Jori Loiz said the LPA has a high chance to develop into a tropical depression since it is in the sea.

Once it intensifies into a tropical depression inside the country, it will be locally named “Kanor.”

According to Loiz, the state weather bureau expects three to four cyclones to visit the country for the month of September.

On the other hand, Loiz noted that the rest of the country including Metro Manila will to continue experience fair weather with partly cloudy to cloudy skies and possible isolated rains mostly in the afternoon or evening due to localized thunderstorms.

According to Loiz, the convective activity brought about by intense heat triggers the formation of more cumulonimbus clouds or dark clouds associated with thunderstorms that brings rains in the afternoon or evening.

In its advisory, PAGASA said light to moderate winds blowing from the northeast to southeast will prevail over Luzon and from the southwest to west over Visayas and Mindanao.

The coastal waters throughout the archipelago will be slight to moderate.

It added no gale warning was issued as sea travel will be safe for fisherfolk and small seacraft. (PNA) JBP/CLTC
