Tropical Storm “Bavi” Weakens But Expected to Enter PAR on Tuesday
(PNA) — The tropical storm “Bavi” which still outside the country has weakened and change its movement, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Monday.
PAGASA said that the tropical storm “Bavi” (International Name) outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) was estimated based on all available data at 2,100 km east of Bicol Region (13.4˚N, 143.5˚E).
Tropical storm Bavi has maximum winds of 75 kph which decreased from 85 kph on Sunday. Its gustiness of up to 90 kph also decreased from 100 kph.
According to PAGASA weather forecaster Alvin Pura, the weakening of tropical storm and the chnage ot its movement is due to the presence of ridge high pressure area.
He added the tropical storm changed movement from west northwest to west southwest at 35 kph. It is expected to enter PAR on Tuesday morning.
Pura said once it enters, the storm will be locally named “Betty.” The tropical storm is not directly affecting the country and expected to continue to weaken as the ridge of HPA continues affecting Northern Luzon.
Pura said most parts of the country will continue to experience generally fair weather as the whole archipelago will be partly cloudy to at times cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms.
In its advisory, PAGASA said light to moderate winds blowing from the northeast to east will prevail over Luzon and coming from the northeast over the rest of the country with slight to moderate seas. (PNA) LAM/CLTC
