Tropical Cyclone Now TS ‘Hagupit’

State weather agency said Tuesday that the tropical cyclone over the Pacific Ocean had intensified into a tropical storm and now bears its international name Hagupit.

PAGASA said Hagupit was 2,200 km east of Mindanao with maximum sustained winds of 65 kph and gusts of 80 kph and moving west-northwest at 25 kph.

It added that tropical storm Hagupit is likely to enter the Philippine area of responsibility late Thursday or early Friday. Once it enters the PAR, Hagupit will be locally named Ruby.

Rain Over North Luzon

Meanwhile, PAGASA said that Cagayan Valley, Cordillera, Apayao and Ilocos Norte will be cloudy with isolated light rain due to the Northeast monsoon.

Metro Manila, Calabarzon and Aurora province will be cloudy with light to moderate rain showers and thunderstorms.

The rest of the country, mostly over the eastern sections, will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms, it said.

Winds will be moderate to strong from the northeast over Luzon and the eastern section of the Visayas, with moderate to rough coastal waters. Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate from the northeast with slight to moderate seas.
