Trick Art Museum: Cebu’s Next Best Attraction
The Cebu Trick Art Museum finally opened last September 1, 2013. It is the first optical illusion art museum in Cebu.
Situated at the 3rd level of the JCenter Mall in A.S. Fortuna, Mandaue City, the painting exhibits on walls and floors, all done by Korean freehand artists, are rendered in two and three dimensional trick art which are especially designed for photographs with lighting installations optimized for the camera and other video devices.
Michael Yang, general manager, hopes that this joint project with JCenter Mall will make Cebu a more exciting destination.“We think this is going to be Cebu’s next best attraction, a welcome amusement destination for both domestic and international tourists,” Yang said.
“The optical museum houses 50 masterpieces of magical experience, from historical themes, twists of romantic themes as well as luxurious and traditional lifestyle themes,” Yang reveals as he proudly showed members of the Cebu tri-media the museum lay-out in its finishing touches over the weekend.
“It even includes Filipino sceneries like the Cebu Jeepney, Guadalupe Mango Farm, the world renowned San Miguel Beer and Cebu Pasalubong Shopping,” he quips.
“Just like in Korea and in any other optical illusion art museum elsewhere in the world, the paintings that we have at the Cebu Trick Art Museum are rendered as two dimensional and three dimensional pieces of art, therefore they create an interesting illusion of depth and trickery,” Yang explains.

“Their magic magnifies when seen through the camera lenses. Because each painting looks differently when seen from different angles or spots, visitors can have fun taking pictures with various comic poses blending nicely with art pieces,” he added. Everyone is advised to bring a camera as well as video equipment when they visit the museum as these are essential in the museum experience.
Michael Yang also revealed that in addition to various oil-on-canvass installations, the museum will also house the 4D Virtual Reality Simulation Ride, where one actually ride with the movie and experience every bump, dip and turn. It will also have a space for an ambiance café and souvenirs shop.
“We would like to host various educational field trips for children and art appreciation talks for adults when the time comes,” he said.
The Cebu Trick Art Museum is open to the public daily from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Visit Facebook page facebook.com/TrickArtCebu
