The Regional Science and Technology week was marked with trainings and exhibits on updates on government programs under the Department of Science and Technology (DOST).
In the recent Kapihan sa PIA Cebu, DOST Regional Director Edilberto Paradela said there were trainings and updates on science and technology developments that the Cebuanos participated in from July 27 to 29 at the Robinsons Galleria.
“The event was all for uplifting and developing the Filipinos in the field of science and technology,” he said.
Paradela was joined by leaders of the different branches of DOST, namely: Oscar Tabada of the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA); Philippine Science High School – Central Visayas Campus Director Warren Cordeta; DOST Assistant Regional Director for Technical Operations Engr. Jesus Zamora; and Department of Information Communications Technology (DICT) Regional Director for Visayas Cluster II Engr. Antonio Edward Padre.
They also presented this year’s outstanding beneficiary of Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program (SETUP) from Bohol, bakeshop owner Lalaine Go.
SETUP provides loans for financial and technical assistance to micro small and medium scale entrepreneurs (MSMEs) that are payable in three years.
The trainings included Technical Session on Packaging and Philippine National Public Key Infrastructure.
There are also two fora on Ethics in Research and ProtectionPlus for Transportation Safety.
In the exhibit, PAGASA showcased its early warning devices available in strategic places in the region, according to Tabada.
On the other hand, Cordeta said all the PSHS graduates are encouraged to enroll in science-related courses.
PSHS has 430 students since it started in Argao town.
The regional celebration was simultaneous with the National Science and Technology Week (NSTW) in other regions and provinces. (rmn/fcc/PIA7-Cebu)
