Town Mayor Suspended for 60 Days
The Cebu Provincial Board during its regular session on Monday asked Gov. Hilario Davide III to suspend Dumanjug Mayor Nelson Garcia for 60 days for alleged abuse of power and usurpation.
The PB’s decision to place Garcia under a 60-day preventive suspension was based from the recommendation of the board committee which was tasked to investigate the complaint filed by Dumanjug Vice Mayor Gica for Garcia’s alleged violation of Section 456 of the Local Government Code when he designated Emmilou Cabonillas as acting town council secretary last year.
Gica said it was his job to appoint employees of the council and not the mayor’s.
For his part, Garcia said the PB members being members with the Liberal Party-there were eight who voted to approve his suspension-should inhibit themselves from participating
in the investigation to ensure that the outcome would not be bias.
Garcia of One Cebu is the brother of Pablo John, who ran for Governor against Davide last year.
