Tornadoes Damage 42 Houses in 2 Villages in Negros Occidental
Bacolod City (PNA) — Forty-two houses were damaged when tornadoes ripped through two villages — one in Bago City and another in Silay City, Negros Occidental Thursday.
The tornado hit the village of Bagroy in Bago City in southern Negros around 11:30 a.m., leaving two houses totally damaged and seven others partially damaged, a report from the Capitol said.
No serious injuries were reported.
Dr. Ernell Tumimbang, provincial health officer, said that nine families composed of 35 individuals were affected.
Tumimbang, who is also officer-in-charge of Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office, said the residents whose houses were damaged are now staying with their relatives.
The Bago City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council is providing assistance to affected families, he added.
Later Thursday at Silay in northern Negros, another tornado was reported.
At least seven houses were totally damaged while 26 others were partially damaged at Purok Matuloy, Zone 5 in Barangay Mambulac.
According to a report of Aksyon Radyo Bacolod, strong winds lasted for 20 minutes and toppled down houses.
