Tom Will Allow Angkas to Operate
Angkas motorcycles may still be seen in Cebu City streets despite the ban from the Land Transportation and Regulatory Board (LTFRB).
This after Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña has announced that the city will not apprehend Angkas drivers “in the interest of public welfare”.
Osmeña made the announcement on Thursday hours after LTFRB Manila had started apprehending Angkas drivers saying they don’t have permits to operate. Angkas is an online booking system similar to Grab and Uber, only this one uses motorbikes to transport passengers.
There are over 100 Angkas motorbikes in Cebu City alone. Osmeña said the riding public uses Angkas to get to their destination. Sine it started in July, Angkas has been widely accepted in Cebu like the habal-habal, it only has to be regulated, he said.
Passengers needs an Angkas mobile application where they can book the ride. The rate per ride is cheap and fixed, hence Angkas has become a popular mode of transport.
