ToFarm Film Festival in Davao City
This year’s ToFarm Film Festival will feature six films which will be shown nationwide from September 12-18.
The ToFarm Film Festival now on its third year is a brainchild of Dr. Milagros O. How, president and CEO of Universal Harvester Incorporated. The film festival entries show the lives and journeys of Filipino farmers and their families living in the agricultural countryside.
One of the six entries is a film created by Mindanaoan filmmaker Julienne Ilagan. Her entry “Kauyagan” (Way of Life) revolves around a soon-to-be tribal leader hesitant to assume the leadership of his people as he is being lured by the life of the big city.
“I had friends with the different tribes of Mindanao I gathered what I had learned from them and created a story which I submitted to ToFarm,” Cagayan de Oro filmmaker Julienne Ilagan said about her entry which stars Bayang Barrios and Jeff Bringa.
The other film entries include:
Alimuom- Set in the distant future when people live in bio-domes and farming activity is prohibited due to the highly toxic environment. A group of scientists discover that plants can still grow in the planet.
1957- A group of farmers working under an abusive landlord awaits the visit of President Ramon Magsaysay.
Anak ng Kamote- In the year 2052, the farming of kamote has been deemed illegal and anyone caught is sent to jail.
Tanabata’s Wife- A Japanese immigrant farmer in Baguio in the early 1900s hires a young Bontoc woman in his farm. He falls in love with her, they get married and have a child, but the woman sets her eyes on someone else.
Sol Searching- Teacher Sol passes away but cannot be buried because her students and the farming community cannot afford it.
In Davao City the screening of the ToFarm Film Festival 2018 films is at the Cinema 6 Gaisano Mall of Davao from September 12-18. (PIA/RG Alama)
