The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) is a national government’s office tasked to keep and maintain the personal records of every individual from birth to death, PSA Provincial Statistics Officer Firmo Deputado said on Tuesday.

“So it is just incumbent for every barangay or municipality to adopt the PSA system as an extension of this office to cater the needs of the people”, said Deputado.

In Cebu province, 40 out of 53 municipalities are serving as extension facilities of PSA, in response to the national government’s campaign of bringing closer to the people its genuine service, for their economic and political upliftment.

Deputado also rallied to all local government units (LGUs) from the barangay level to adopt even the Batch Request Entry Quick System (BREQS) to serve the people’s need in acquiring birth certificates of their children and other necessary documents needed in school, job applications and travelling abroad.

“If every barangay or municipality have BREQS, there is no need for the people to go to the PSA regional office in Cebu City,” Deputado stressed.

He said the PSA regional office located at the Gaisano South along Colon Street, Cebu City is serving at least 3,000 individuals every day from Mondays to Fridays.

This happens due to lack of LGU’s efforts to serve and deliver to their constituents the necessary birth and death records which LGUs can really provide if they want to do so, Deputado explained.

“This is a big part of LGU’s service to their constituents, however there are plenty of them (LGUs) who obviously disregarding it,” Deputado said.

He added that for any LGU who wanted to install the BREQS in their barangay, “we consider this a big help to the PSA regional office and we are very welcome to support them in this quest.” Deputado said.
