Tips For Heart Healthy Pantry Staples

Published

on

Whether we admit it or not, Most moms have always known best when it comes to kitchen pantry staples that are good for you.

A majority of people are familiar with the Corn oil sitting on their shelves, because their moms used it for home cooked meals when they were growing up. But few are aware of corn oil’s many advantages. A recent survey conducted by Leger revealed that many consumers aren’t familiar with the benefits of plant sterols – or in which foods they can be found.

Experts recommend consuming between 1,500 mg and 3,000 mg of plant sterols per day.

Common foods containing plant sterols include:

• Corn oil

• Beans

• Legumes

• Brown rice

• Molasses

“I always try to look at the health aspect of any food first. The fact is, corn oil has a unique combination of healthy fatty acids and plant sterols,” says Rose Reisman, author of The Best of Rose Reisman. “This plays a role in reducing the risk of heart disease which is important for all families.”

In addition to having a higher smoke point than most oils, which means it can be used for cooking at higher temperatures without losing its health benefits, corn oil also has a neutral taste profile, allowing the full flavors of your ingredients to shine, no matter what recipe you prepare. It can be used in everyday cooking and baking, as well as in salad dressings.
