Tips for Business Travel
It’s no surprise that company cost-cutting puts added pressure on business travellers, but that shouldn’t mean compromising on comfort. Take a look at these helpful tips to make your next business trip stress-free:
What to pack: The most important rule for any business traveller is not to over-pack. Be practical and only take items essential to your trip. Review luggage specifications with your carrier and if you do need to check a bag, be sure to have important documents in your carry-on.
Comfort counts: Nobody likes paying for things they don’t need. Pass on the 5-star hotel and go for a 2 or 3-star that provides clean, comfortable rooms, exceptional service and the essential hotel amenities all at a reasonable price. They serve breakfast too and most have a fitness room or pool, so you can keep fit on the road. Free Internet access has also become an industry standard.
Get rewarded: Check with the hotel you’re considering to see if they offer a loyalty rewards program, so you can earn valuable points or miles on every qualified stay. Check to see how many nights you need to stay to earn a reward and be sure you’re not locked into just room night redemptions.
Keep in touch: It’s a good idea to send your business itinerary to a co-worker, friend or relative, so someone will always know your whereabouts. Be sure to carry a cell phone when travelling alone and of course sending an e-mail from the road to keep people informed is a good idea.
R and R: When travelling for business you rarely get time to tour your destination. Take a couple of extra days at the end of your trip to explore being in a new location and enjoy some time to relax before going back to the office.
