TikTok Broadens Content Features
Chinese based video sharing app TikTok broadens their content features for primarily to let parents monitor their children’s activities.
Recently, TikTok made this feature where parents will be able to control what their children can and cannot see on their accounts including hashtags, users, and the content itself. The new feature also lets parents determine who can see and comment on their children’s videos, choose to make the account private, restricted mode limits and parents can also determine how much time their children spent on the app each day.
Meanwhile, TikTok global minor safety policy head Tracy Elizabeth wrote in a blog post “Parenting a teen’s digital life can be daunting, and we often hear that parents and other caregivers feel as though they’re playing catch up when it comes to the latest technology and applications their teens use. That’s why we regularly speak to parents and teens and work with family and youth experts to develop meaningful ways for parents to support their teens on TikTok. Our aim is to strike a balance between safety and autonomy for teenagers as we work to create a safe and supportive place for self-expression.”
Prior to this, TikTok already had the “family pairing” feature where parents can link their TikTok account to their children’s account for greater monitoring and control. (MLC)
