Thunderstorm Brings Hailstones in Bataan
(PNA) — Hailstones fell in some parts of the towns of Samal and Orani in this province during a thunderstorm Wednesday afternoon.
Nelson Guinto of Barangay Santa Lucia in Samal said he saw hailstones as big as grains of corn dropping with the rains.
“The hailstones lasted for only less than a minute but the rains continued,” he said.
Guinto said that before the rains, it was dark and there was slight wind but loud thunder and strong lightning.
High school students Dan Roman Kyle Anonuevo, 12, and Amalia Mae Galicia, 13, were at the Jose Rizal Institute in Barangay Parang-Parang, Orani when hailstones fell between 3 p.m. to 4 p.m..
“It is as big as a marble and bounced in the roof that lasted for 10 minutes,” the two students said.
Renidad Casenas, 71, said hailstones as big as marble also dropped in Barangay Masantol in Orani.
“The drop of the hailstones in our roof was strong. The thunder, lightning and rains were likewise strong and it was frightening to go outside,” Casenas added.
There were light to moderate rains in Abucay town and Balanga City but no hailstones.
Last July 24, hailstones were also experienced in barangays Sapa and Santa Lucia in Samal town. (PNA) JBP/ZST/EBE/PS
