Three Talisay Councilors Tagged in Alleged Corruption Attempt
Talisay City Administrator John Yre delos Reyes held as confidential the identities of three Talisay City councilors who were tagged as asking bribes from some businessmen in the area.
Delos Reyes said he is studying now the move he would do whether he is to investigate the said councilors or to silently observe their activities.
But with the pressure from other councilors prodding the Talisay city administrator to identify the three, Delos Reyes said he may try to investigate the concerned legislators.
Earlier Talisay City councilor Danilo Caballero asked Delos Reyes not to keep silent but to let the other council members know who they are.
Caballero’s point was to avoid the people’s suspicious mind from suspecting anybody from the council as engaging this kind of anomaly.
“It’s better for the city administrator to identify the three, to spare all other legislators out as suspects”, Caballero said.
It was Talisay city government’s spokesman Vince Monterde who earlier disclosed about the housing magnets who went to Delos Reyes office complaining against the three councilors who asked them money as a pre-condition to get an immediately approval of their application to open housing subdivisions in the said city.
But Monterde did not name names saying it was only the Talisay city administrator who has the privilege to identify them publicly.
Delos Reyes, who considered this as an attempt of corruption, was also grateful to the said businessmen whom he did not identify, for trusting his leadership.
Delos Reyes assured to make his own investigation on this matter and the moment the probe is positive, he may gather more witnesses and evidences against the three.
“I will not hesitate to encourage the complainant to file complaint in courts against them,” he said.
Earlier, Talisay City Mayor Johnny delos Reyes, John Yre’s father, who promised to go against corrupt government officials, entrusted this matter to his son allowing John Yre to make the final move against these suspects.
“This must be investigated first to prove that the complainants were telling the truth and not only to put the three councilors in a shameful situation”, Delos Reyes said.
The city administrator may call the concerned legislators to his office and conduct its own investigation after these Christmas holidays.
