Three Brgy. Workers Found Positive of Illegal Drug Use
*Currently, there are 107 barangay workers in Cebu City that has been proved to be using illegal drugs, COSAP says.
Three more barangay workers in Cebu City had been found positive of illegal drug use when they were subjected to surprise drug test on Thursday by the personnel of the City Office for Substance-Abuse Prevention (COSAP).
COSAP head Alice Utlang and her personnel went to Barangay Adlaon Thursday morning to conduct a surprise drug test to 59 barangay officials and employees upon the request of Barangay Captain Elvis Narra.
Adlaon, a hinterland barangay of Cebu City situated in the north district, has 61 officials and employees. Of the 61 personnel, only 59 of them were subjected to the drug test because the two workers are already senior citizens, COSAP said.
“Ang duha wala na lang iapil kay mga senior na ug ang usa gi-dialysis pa gani,” Utlang said after the drug test.
Last Wednesday, two other barangay workers in Barangay Pahina San Nicolas were also tested positive of shabu in a surprise drug test.
According to Utlang that it is up to concerned barangay heads to decide whether those employees found positive of illegal drugs will be terminated or be given the another chance.
The total number of barangay workers in Cebu City that had been found positive of illegal drugs had already reached 107. Of the 80 city barangays, more than 20 are still waiting for their turn.
