This Smart Rug Will Help Babies’ Brain and Body Development
Taiwanese designer Meng Ling Yang has created a smart rug called JoyCarpet that actively encourages babies to be more active and curious.
JoyCarpet is fitted with LED lights that will flash in red, blue or green. It is also capable of playing audio noises that will react to a baby’s touch and movement, which means it encourages them to hang around on the rug and play within its boundaries.
There’s a hidden switch beneath the rug that lets the parents choose between two modes:
Mode 1 is designed for babies who are learning to crawl and a flashing light appears on the rug to encourage the child to move towards it. When the child hits the light, a short musical noise plays. The flashing light then moves to another part of the rug.
Mode 2, which was designed for more competent crawlers, the light moves away as the child approaches it.
This particular concept was recently took its place as one of the 12 winners of the second annual Lexus Design Award, aiming to help aid your child’s brain and body development.
The smart rug is made of soft blanket material which covers the LED light panel, a sensor and soundboard. The device is battery powered to avoid babies getting tangled on wires.
JoyCarpet concept are expected to be released later this year, although there is no word on a particular release date and price just yet.
