The World’s Richest: Amazon’s Jeff Bezos
Have you ever wondered if you had millions in your bank account? Have you imagined what are you gonna do when you get rich?
For Amazon Founder and CEO Jeff Bezos it isn’t only about millions, but billions.
Recently, the world’s richest man’s net worth reached about $202 billion dollars. Since January this year, his net worth skyrocketed up to $87 billion.
But aside from being so wealthy that he can technically buy whatever he wants with his money, let us stroll down memory lane and see who Jeff really is.
Born as Jeffrey Preston “Jeff” Bezos on January 12, 1964 in Albuquerque, New Mexico, his parents were doing good making a living with his biological father Ted Jorgensen who owns a bike shop and is also one of the top unicyclists in Albuquerque. Jeff’s mother Jacklyn was still 17 years old and still in high school.
In 1968, Jeff’s parents had a divorce and her mother was married then to a Cuban immigrant named Miguel Bezos.
At an early age, Jeff had a significant mechanical talent which was seen to have been very fit for his interest in science. Some of Jeff’s early evidence of mechanical talents were the making of an electric alarm and he also managed to disassemble his crib with a screwdriver.
During his elementary days in River Oaks Elementary School in Houston, he would spend his summer at a ranch working on various things such as vaccinating cattle, laying pipes, fixing windmills and other farming chores.
Later on, Bezos started his business at school and was called “The Dream Institute”. His business is an educational summer camp for elementary students in the 4th, 5th and 6th graders.
During Jeff’s high school days, he attended Palmetto Senior High School in Miami as his family eventually moved out to Florida. Jeff did good in school and later realized that he loves computers and other technologies.
Participating in various activities and events, Jeff really showed his compassion for computers and science as he won a Silver Knight Award in the University of Florida’s Student Science Training Program in 1982.
With his love for computers continuously growing, he graduated two Bachelor of Science in Computer Service and electrical engineering from Princeton University.
Before being able to start up his own business Amazon, Jeff had to work for several firms as his startup.
Jeff later on stayed in the finance industry where he was eventually became Vice President of D.E. Shaw.
D.E Shaw is company that specializes in computer science. This is also the time that Jeff was engaged more into the digital world that would change his life and the course of internet.
In 1994, he quit his job at D.E Shaw and moved to Seattle to open an online bookstore and to also sell computer goods like software, hardware CDs and more.
Today, after many years of success and hard work, Jeff is now the world’s richest man.
