The Heart of Worship Singing
Early this month, worship pastor and book author Bob Kauflin came to Cebu, for a worship conference at Living Word Christian Ministries, Banawa. A thousand pastors, song leaders, musicians and sound technicians from different churches in the Philippines attended the three-day event, which set a refreshing touch among the brethren especially in the area of worship.
Pastor Bob taught the core meaning behind singing to God in Sunday services or even in just one’s own contemplative moments. Change of the heart and the mind. This is what is bent to result from worshipping God.
“Why do we sing…? What should we sing…? How should we sing…? We must sing with all our hearts although it takes training and skill to attain it,” says Pastor Bob nailing the essence of worship singing.
“…(we) sing based on the Word of God, the gospel of Jesus Christ…why it’s important and why it’s good. We (group) also want to communicate of the importance of the grace of God. We sing about grace! Sing Jesus Christ’s salvation from day to day,” encapsulates Bob Kauflin.

Hailing from Kentucky, U.S.A. where home church Sovereign Grace Ministries is based, Kauflin has done numerous worship conferences in the different parts of the U.S.A. and Australia since 1999. A musician himself, he first stepped into ministering to the musicians and music leaders in their church, before heading out to minister to others. He has worked with co-church member, musician likewise and songwriter/composer Steve Cook, who migrated from California with wife, to also heed God’s calling in the wonderful ministry of music. Cook, to mention, produces songs for Sovereign Grace Ministries collectively known as Sovereign Grace Music, and engineers a recording studio of the church. He started writing Christian songs for the church in 1985, with past stints the previous years before that.
When asked about how worship for God through songs can help people in current crises hitting in any parts of the world, Kauflin quipped that singing to God brings change of attitude thus, alleviating the pains and the sorrows with having to go through those calamities, catastrophes and incidents in life. There is a change of attitude because thoughts and actions are changed resulting from the songs which contains God’s truth, spoken to the people’s hearts and minds when being sung. “Songs have a unifying and encouraging effect based on the eternal truth in God’s Word.” He added that singing can be a very powerful means.
A free outdoor worship concert culminated the worship conference last October 13 at The Terraces, Ayala
Expect more workshops on worship that will transpire here in the Philippines with Bob Kauflin and his team! He sees the need of many churches around the world needing to know the doctrine of worship singing.
