TESDA-Southern Leyte Gets Ready for STEP Implemention

The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) in Southern Leyte is waiting for the go signal to facilitate implementation, anytime this year, of the Special Training for Employment Program (STEP).

“The amount of P2 million was allocated for STEP in the province, through the intervention of Rep. Roger Mercado that was coursed through the Department of Labor and Employment,” Ryan Lacdao, senior TESDA specialist, revealed.

“This will be used for courses on housekeeping and heavy equipment,” Lacdao said during a Kapihan program recently.

Diego Credo, media liaison officer at the Congressman’s office, confirmed the information shared by Lacdao, adding that aside from the two already mentioned, four more skills are added for the training menu.

“These include janitorial services under housekeeping, and three other separate courses such as plumbing, carpentry, and electrical installation,” Credo reported.

“Those who are interested may enlist their names now, either at TESDA or at the office of the Congressman,” he added.

STEP has no educational attainment required, while the age limit starts as young as 15 and above, and no age limit on “above,” Lacdao emphasized.

Among the other freebies under STEP is that trainees have P60 daily allowance, and will be provided with tool kits once they successfully finish the course, which also covers lectures on entrepreneurship.

“Assessment for national certificates (NC) I or II is free under STEP,” Lacdao said. (LDL/MMP/PIA-8, Southern Leyte)
