TESDA Holds Build Fair in Bogo
Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) Cebu provincial office in coordination with the City of Bogo will hold a whole-day Build Fair event in Bogo City on June 8, 2019 at the Barangay Cogon Basketball Court.
The activity is the second leg of TESDA’s Build Fair event that first took place last April 5, which helped encourage participants to take construction-related courses through TESDA’s vocational training institutions programs, in support of the national government’s Build, Build, Build program.
This year, TESDA also highlights various technical vocational trainings on building disaster-resilient houses, to be able to train families on how to build homes that would survive various environmental hazards.
The need for disaster-resilient housing
Considered one of the world’s most vulnerable countries to natural calamities like floods, earthquakes and typhoons, the Philippines is at the forefront of disaster resiliency efforts. With a significant portion of its population living in disaster-prone areas, the need for disaster-resilient homes is urgent.
The upcoming event aims to showcase various technical courses available to the public to improve their construction skills—including a teaser course of “Handy Women”, a course designed for women to learn the basics of carpentry and masonry.
Attendees will also be able to watch demonstration of tools, techniques and construction practices, all in an effort to help educate families in northern Cebu on how to better construct their homes that would last for generations. The activity will highlight new concepts such as the correct building sequence, do-it-yourself construction tips and other techniques to help ensure that more families build homes that will be resilient to disasters.
TESDA’s Build Fair event is in partnership with Habitat for Humanity’s Terwilliger Center for Innovation in Shelter, a global organization focused on helping housing markets better meet the needs of households in need of decent, affordable shelter, and seek to identify and accelerate companies that are bringing housing products and services to the low-income household market.
