TESDA, DOLE to Train Typhoon Victims On House Repair
The Technical Education Skills and Development Authority (TESDA-7) and the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE-7) are training typhoon-affected families in the northern Cebu on how to rebuild their houses.
Rosana Urdaneta of TESDA-7 said they have sent teams to the north to provide basic skills training on house repairs and rehabilitation to individuals there especially those whose houses were damaged by super typhoon Yolanda. She said that after the training, they will be sent to do some repairs, and be paid for such job. The trainings include masonry, carpentry, electrical, and plumbing.
“TESDA will do the training, DOLE will give them the pay and then they will be hired to do some jobs while repairing their homes at the same time,” she said.
DOLE-Cebu Director Grace Diaz said there are 480 individuals who will undergo these trainings, and they are from Pilar, Camotes, Bantayan Island, San Remegio and Daanbantayan. Each will receive a minimum daily wage of P307 from the mainland while P282 for those from the islets, she said.
Apart from the wages they will be getting, Diaz said that they will also receive other benefits for three months from the DSWD.
