Temptation
Is it a sin to be tempted?
“The Devil came and said to Him, “If you are the Son of God, change these stones into loaves of bread. ” But Jesus told him, “No! The Scriptures say, ‘People need more than bread for their life; they must feed on every word of God.'” Matthew 4:3-4
“[Jesus] faced all of the same temptations we do, yet he did not sin.” Hebrews 4:15
It is not a sin to be tempted, yielding into temptation is. Jesus was tempted and He remained sinless. He banked on the Truth which is God’s Word. Jesus understands us when we are tempted because he faced temptation himself. May the example He set of not giving in to it be an example to us, and help us resist temptations. Temptation is unavoidable. As what the known reformist Martin Luther King, Jr. said, “You cannot stop birds from flying above your head, but you can stop them from building a nest on your head.” This so with temptation, where we can’t control temptation from hovering around us (it’s everywhere because we live in a sinful world), but we can do something about it to prevent it from taking a place in us. So when we are tempted, let us do what Jesus did -be ready to respond with the truth of Scripture for this is the only way out. Knowing what is right according to God will help us resist sin.
“Since He himself has gone through suffering and temptation, He is able to help us when we are being tempted.” Hebrews 2:18
