Tatak ng Tapang: Everyday Heroes Who Inspire Through Grit and Resilience

Courage is often celebrated in grand tales of fiction, but its truest form is etched in the lives of ordinary people. With its newest campaign, Tatak ng Tapang, Tatak Ginebra, Ginebra San Miguel, the world’s largest-selling gin, once again raises the bar in brand storytelling. This time, the spotlight is on real Filipinos whose strength is written not in legend, but in the scars they proudly carry, visible reminders of battles endured, challenges overcome, and dreams pursued with unwavering grit.

Launched digitally on December 31 to usher in the new year, the campaign represents a powerful evolution in Ginebra’s legacy. No longer confined to symbolic heroes, it honors real individuals whose journeys embody resilience and authenticity. Their stories, which are raw, relatable, and inspiring, invite us to see courage not as an abstract ideal, but as a lived experience that pushes us to persevere, no matter how uncertain the path ahead.

From Conceptual Bayani to Real-Life Heroes

For years, Ginebra San Miguel has been synonymous with courage, resilience, and the “never-say-die” spirit. During the pandemic, the brand celebrated the idea of the kabayani. The teachers, jeepney drivers, nurses, and workers whose quiet heroism defined everyday bayanihan. In 2025, this concept evolved into a new chapter, honoring real-life heroes whose scars are not hidden but worn proudly as proof of battles fought and won.

These marks etched on the hands, feet, and faces of mountaineer Miguel Mapalad, graffiti artist Auggie Fontanilla, basketball player Sonny Estil, and billiards champion Chezka Centeno are not symbols of defeat. They are badges of honor, reminders of discipline, grit, and the courage to keep moving forward.

Lahat Tayo May Tatak ng Tapang

At the heart of the campaign lies a universal truth that everyone faces battles in life. Each of us carries struggles, challenges, and scars, whether visible or unseen. Yet within each of us lies courage: the courage to confront obstacles, fight for what matters, and pursue dreams for ourselves, our families, and our nation.

“This is the kind of courage that never retreats and never gives up, no matter the challenge. It is the courage that pushes us to persevere until we achieve our goals. Yan ang Tatak ng Tapang. Yan ang Tatak Ginebra,” says Marketing Manager Ron Molina.

Who better to embody this spirit than Miguel Mapalad, who braved exhaustion, cold, and danger to reach the summit of Mount Everest. His dream was not simply to climb mountains, but to stand among the few Filipinos who had conquered the world’s highest peak. Years of rigorous training tested his limits, but his courage never wavered.

“Every step, every pull, every push, even in the face of pain, left the mark of courage imprinted on me until I finally stood on top of the world,” Miguel recalls. His scars are not just physical; they are proof of a dream fulfilled through resilience.

For Auggie, courage is painted across the streets of Manila. Once working in publishing, he left stability behind to pursue his passion as a graffiti artist. By day, he hustled to make ends meet; by night, he painted walls with bold colors and messages of hope.

Recognition came slowly, but his persistence paid off. Today, Auggie is a lead artist at The Clothing and the Pilipinas Street Plan Collective. His murals are more than art; they are statements of courage, painted through sacrifice and determination.

Sonny’s journey began with hardship. Growing up as a farmer and carpenter, he played basketball in local leagues wearing borrowed shoes that didn’t fit. The pain was constant, but his determination was stronger.

Through relentless training, he rose from obscurity to make the game-winning shot at the Draft Combine. Now a first-round pick for Barangay Ginebra, Sonny carries the mark of courage in every step he takes on the court, a reminder that resilience can turn borrowed shoes into a path toward greatness.

Chezka’s courage was forged in the billiard halls of Zamboanga, where she was often the only girl competing against men. Losses were frequent, but she never lost hope. Through discipline and practice, she rose from local matches to international competitions.

In 2025, she was crowned WPA Women’s World 10-Ball Champion, using her victories not only to achieve personal success but to lift her family from poverty. Today, she holds the cue with confidence, proving that courage can transform adversity into triumph.

A Truly Filipino Brand

“We celebrate courage in its most authentic form. Miguel, Auggie, Sonny, and Chezka are not celebrities or from well-off families, but they have shown what Tatak ng Tapang is all about that when they face life’s challenges head-on, persevere against all odds, and inspire others through their strength, grit, and never-say-die spirit, they become real-life heroes,” says Group Product Manager Paolo Jose Tupaz.

Through Tatak ng Tapang, Tatak Ginebra, Ginebra San Miguel continues its legacy of honoring courage, this time through real faces, real scars, and real stories.
