Talisay’s Salary Release Criticized
A cause-oriented group, in a letter, has criticized Talisay City Administration for its “inefficient” release of salaries to workers.
“It seems that the city has not found an efficient way of disbursing and releasing the salary of the Job Order workers. Every pay day, the same system is implemented,” said Erick Auza of Centrist Democratic Party of the Philippines and Sustainability Initiatives, Inc. The letter was addressed to Talisay City Mayor Johnny de los Reyes.
Auza said because of the system the city hall is adopting, more than 2,000 job order workers have to crowd the hallways of the city hall, which could reach to the lower floors because of their number.
“The victims mostly of this system are the women. They are forced to compete with the men in the lines. They suffer from the unnecessary pokes and pushes,” he said. He said a 67-year-old job order employee had reportedly died because of the long queue last month.
For his part, city information officer Vince Monterde said the system was inherited from the previous administration, but the new mayor has already appointed three disbursing officers at the Cash Division.
Monterde said the mayor is still looking for ways to address this problem to ease the workers’ problem on endless lines every 5th and 20th days of the month.
