The Talisay City government is set to review the 19-year-old memorandum of agreement it entered into with Metropolitan Cebu Water District (MCWD).

This after Councilor Antonio Bacaltos Jr. found a need to revisit the contract if it was strictly followed by the water district.

“It has been almost 20 years since the signing of this MOA thus there is a paramount need to ascertain all the provisions stipulated in it was followed strictly by both parties,” said Bacaltos Jr., who chairs council committee on the Agriculture and Aquatic Resources.

The MOA was signed in August 1994 when Talisay was still a municipality, reminded Bacaltos to the Council where he asked that it should approve a measure forcing the city to revisit said contract with MCWD.

The said contract was signed by then mayor Dehlia Tiu and Alfonso Albaño, who was at that time the chairman of the MCWD board of directors.

Bacaltos said the said water district could only drill 19 wells and construct 19 pumping stations in barangay. But he said it is possible that it has built more wells and pumping stations that what was agreed.

“It is strongly suggested that an actual inventory be conducted to determine how many wells have been drilled so far and how many pumping stations has been constructed by MCWD,” Bacaltos said.

Bacaltos filed his motion pushing for the review of the contract before the council during its session last week. The motion was approved.
