Talisay to Reopen Tabunok Parking Lot
Almost two years since its closure, the Talisay City government is set to reopen the parking lot side of Tabunok Public Market.
But Vice Mayor Alan Bucao clarified only the parking lot part will be re-opened, the public market remains closed. Bucao, who heads the City of Talisay-Traffic Operations and Development Athority (CT-TODA), said they have decided to allow tricycle drivers to use the parking lot following a series of consultative meetings they had the past months. Bucao, however, said it is not to gain their sympathy. Bucao is seeking reelection under the administration ticket.
Meanwhile, opposition Councilor Romeo Villarante described the city’s move as their victory. Villarante said the administration is threatened that the opposition is gaining the support of the displaced tricycle drivers. There are at least 3,000 drivers in the city.
The Tabunok tricycle parking lot, which is adjacent to the public market, was closed to the public in August 2011 after vendors were moved to Lagtang Public Market.
